Our Right to Vote?
It seems odd that the HILCO Board has recently "appointed" two new board members for Districts 1 & 3, effectively nullifying the democratic principles the Co-op was founded upon in 1937. Former District 1 board member Kyle Cross was effectively living in Missouri for approximately six months before his "departure from the board" while representing the Ovilla/Glenn Heights District. His periodic trips back to see his family happened to coincide with HILCO Board meetings and his ability to get his $1,200 monthly payments for attending a 3-4 hour board meeting. District 3 was up for election in September and K. W. McPherson, apparently tired of the self-serving dealings of some board members, left the board prior to the election. The board could have announced McPherson's planned departure and also held elections for the "absent" Mr. Cross, but it apparently better suited their agenda to remove the members' ability to vote from the election process by "appointing" two men that better suited their "team".
Oddly, this obstruction of the democratic process also occurred when the districts were rapidly "re-aligned" and a member set to run against Director Margaret Hill found himself "moved" to another district. Really odd is that this is the second such "redistricting" on behalf of Ms. Hill's competition in the past two elections. If one leans towards conspiracies, it might seem that she doesn't have qualms about moving boundaries to avoid a fight with an energetic member. Perhaps she believes it is much easier to run against the son of an old family friend.
